I swore I wasn't going to post on this again. I told myself that I have done enough ranting about the war. I bitched here, Five Years Of Illegal War Has Wrought So Much, here, McCain's Big Bad Threat; Scare Tactics & GOP, here, Bush Credits Faith In Killing All Them Damn Foreigners, and here A Picture That Needs To Be Seen [Pic]. Not to mention, commenting in numerous other posts.
I guess by now I am a noted for inserting relevant lyrics from some of my favorite songs that address the topic I am discussing, I suppose I won't disappoint this time either.

GREEN FIELDS OF FRANCE
(No Man's Land)
(Written by Eric Bogle)
The sun's shining down on these green fields of France
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plow
No gas no barbed wire no guns firing now
But here in this graveyard that's still No Man's Land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To a man's blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation who were butchered and damned
And I can't help but wonder no Willie McBride
Do all those who lie here know why they died
Did you really believe them when they told you "The Cause"
Did you really believe that this war would end wars
Well the suffering the sorrow the glory the shame
The killing and dying it was all done in vain
Oh Willie McBride it all happened again
And again and again and again and again
Kind of relevant huh? Isn't the indifference disgusting?
The reasons I decided to address the Iraq War again on the five year anniversary are as follows, firstly Pariahjane sent me an article about the birthday of the invasion and secondly, because of the images I have seen today of protestors being arrested and that I feel this outrage needs to be voiced over and over.
Our President, George W. Bush, with a complicit congress, a fearful, misled public and the rallying cry of WMD's in the hands of terrorists, invaded the small country of Iraq on this day five years ago. It began with surgical airstrikes that led to a quickly disbanded government and a "Mission Accomplished" according to our president a few months later.
Then the real "WAR" began. The weapons were not found, the links to al-Qaeda dissolved into thin air and the depth of the deception and lies slowly rose to the surface. There was falsified intelligence, there were misleading statements from government officials and all around dishonesty. Insurgents flooded across a once secure border, suicide attacks became rampant, the country was on the verge of civil war and.... our leaders packed their bags and shipped off to a state of denial.
Well, it is a sad anniversary, here we are and our soldiers are still dying, being injured and being used as dispensable material by an administration who would rather watch men and women, fathers, sons, moms, daughters, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers die, instead of admitting failure or apologizing for mistakes. Iraqis are dying, Americans are dying, coalition fighters (what's left) are dying and the GOP, John McCain and the Bush administration refuse to stop.
But it is a hopeful anniversary also, more people are waking up from the lull, a growing population is becoming discontent with the war, the administration and demanding a change. More voices are speaking up. More people who care are protesting. The tide is changing.
We need to push harder, constantly, and incessantly for an end to the this illegal invasion. We can make them cease this aggression that leads to nowhere, but you MUST use your voice!

I'm right beside you yelling almost as loudly - LOL!
As corny as this may sound, I feel so let down by this administration. Perhaps I am being way too naive, but a small part of me actually believed these people would, at some point, come to their senses and take the steps necessary to fix this mess. Evidently I was wrong.
As always BGH I love this post! Thank you for taking the time out to do it.
I also feel let down by the administration. It's utterly disappointing and reprehensible that our government would rather continue sending troops to Iraq then admit their mistakes. Is ego really more important than countless lives?
We were lied to. Over and over again. The Bush administration stirred up a horent's nest by invading Iraq and we will be paying the price long after the administration is gone. The only upside to that is that they will finally be out of office.
